a fundraising drive for Salaam Baalak Trust

Established in 1988, following the runaway success of Mira Nair's film Salaam Bombay, the Salaam Baalak Trust (SBT) works for Delhi's hungry and forgotten street children. SBT provides shelter, nutrition, education, mental health counselling and love to rescued children at their residential facilities. They also run 10 contact points across the city, where vulnerable street children can find a meal, a game, a book, a class, medical assistance, and a shoulder to lean on.

Who are these children? They are the little ones who live on the streets and in slums, whose families hover at the poverty line and who are vulnerable to trafficking and abuse. They are the faces at our windows at red lights, the little bodies sleeping at railway stations, the hands rummaging through our garbage for valuables.

With the pandemic continuing to rage across Delhi and the country, these children and their families are in distress, with many going hungry.

Via this fundraiser we are looking to raise money for SBT to immediately supply ration kits for one month to 150 street children and their families. Those of us who go to bed with our stomachs full cannot imagine the gnaw of hunger. Please donate generously. Your contributions are tax-exempt under section 80G, and you can learn more about SBT's work at www.salaambaalaktrust.com

On a cold winter evening, a little girl wanders the streets selling matches...waiting for someone to buy a few, so that she can finally go back home. Instead, she ends up meeting the person she hoped to the most, and least expected to.

Hans Christian Anderson's fairy tale, originally published in Danish in 1845 resounds as strongly today, holding a mirror to the state of society and a peek through the eyes of the millions of little girls and boys around the world whose circumstances compel them to a dire fate.

An English adaptation with original music composed by Lilanoor Ensemble, and presented by Cloud Playhouse. Come join us for this enchanting illustrated podcast, followed by QnA.
